Bobby "Hollywood" Lacer
(Lead Vocals, Percussion, Kazoo) |
After many years wasting away on a beach drinking
margaritas and chasing senoritas, Hollywood packed
his tequila and came back |
home to the Midwest to party with the Conch Republic!
Hollywood is known by all as the perpetual "front-man"
both on and off the stage. With many years of
experience as a performer, he really knows how to keep a
party going - Hollywood style! |
Michael "Panama"
Thomas
(Guitar, Vocals, Engineer) |
Having lived under the assumption that forgiveness
is easier than asking permission, Panama's always
flown under the radar. Armed only with his
guitar (and a batch |
| of
freshly poured boat drinks) Panama and the rest of the
Conchs are proud to present a little bit of the lower
latitudes to your One Particular Harbor! Life
needs the Caribbean and what is the Caribbean without
rum? |
"Lt. Dan"
Combs
(Drums, Percussion) |
What can we say about Lt. Dan... he's "the
man", of course! We call
the Lieutenant The Man because he can do just about anything when
it comes to percussion! Plus, how many |
guys do you know that can play drums with one
hand and chug back a cold cerveza in the other?
Well, Lt. Dan isn't one of them, but he sure can
do each of them well individually. Plus,
he loves to eat hot, hot, hot chili peppers
straight up. No doubt, Lt. Dan is
"The Man"! |
Mike "Jam" Cooley
(Keyboards, Trumpet, Vocals) |
Mike Cooley or
better known as "Jam", grew out of the
tradition of the great Central Kentucky party
band "Big Daddy and the Ducktails" who, during
the 70's, |
traveled
and performed
at all of the port and party cities on the east
coast, with an extended stay in Savannah,
Georgia. Now with the Conch Republic, he
hopes to continue that party tradition.
Jam got through college and the years that
followed on a diet of pickled wienies and Little
Kings. |
Aaron
"Moonlight" Graham
(Congas, Bongos, Timbales, Drums,
Percussion) |
Imagine yourself lying on the beach,
enjoying a frosty boat drink while
listening to the crashing waves and
tropical music. Now add a little
"moonlight" and you have |
the perfect setting... a little of Moonlight
Graham, that is. Not only is Moonlight an
amazing percussionist, he may be one of the most
versatile players anywhere... when he's not chillin'
with his favorite frosty beverage, of course.
Bottom line, "he just wants
to bang on his drum all day." |
Shannon
"Skelly Mon" Gritton
(Guitar, Mandolin, Ukulele, Vocals) |
Skelly Mon is much like his mythical cousin that
many of you know - Jolly Mon. While his
background is not fully known, we do know that
he is an amazing musician with a |
love
for Trop Rock, the beach, and a cold frosty
drink. The Conch Republic just wouldn't be
complete with the musical stylings and comic
antics of the 'mon we love - Skelly Mon!
"Oh, oh, oh, oh, Skelly Mon sing. Oh, oh,
oh, oh, make the music ring!" |
Dave "ChiTown" Hutter
(Steel Pan, Congas, Bongos, Percussion) |
Ah,
yes, ChiTown Hutter... the baddest man
on a steel pan to ever venture out of
the Port of Chicago. While he may
be the newest member of the Conch
Republic family, |
he is
in no way shape or form, a rookie to Trop Rock. ChiTown
is not only a great steel pan player, he plays
all percussion styles and studies at the
University of Kentucky. So no matter what
instrument he decides to grab, his play always put
you in a tropical state of mind. |
Bud "Vegas" McKinley
(Bass Guitar, Sax, Vocals) |
What do you get when you take pirate and
rock-n-roll bass player? You get a
party animal unlike any other! Bud
"Vegas" has played with so many different
bands in so |
many different genres, we don't have room to
list them all. But he has finally rediscovered
his Piratitude and has returned to his true love
- Trop Rock! Yes, ladies, he is a
tall drink of water, but he's also a pirate at
heart, so ye' beware. A pirate's first
love is always the sea... |
Eileen "Buckeye
Babe" Lacer
(CONCHETTE: Backup Vocals, Dancer) |
This
bonita senorita has been singing and
performing all her
life. She may have been raised up
north, but the southern latitude is in
her blood. This Conchette knows
how to |
work
the crowd both on and off the stage. Eileen is
a big part of the band's success. Best of
all, when she's on stage, she really knows how
to make a hula skirt dance! |
Theresa "Senora"
Thomas
(CONCHETTE: Backup Vocals, Dancer) |
“Shake! Shake! Shake,
Senora!” Just as the music begins so
does “Senora”! You won’t find this
Conchette sitting still when the band
begins to play! Whether on the stage, |
leading the conga line, handing
out business cards, or taking photos for the
website, Senora is always shaking her “grass
skirt"
– truly a Hula Girl at
Heart! |

The Rest of the Conch Crew |
Craig
"Da Boss" Newton
(Road Manager, Sound/Light Tech) |
When it comes to road warriors, there are none bigger
than Craig, "Da Boss" Newton. The Boss keeps this band in
shape to keep
sailing because without
him, who
knows what would happen to this band of
crazy pirates. The Boss is a graduate of a true recording
engineer's school , so running sound is not problem.
All you have to do is look at him and you know why he is able to
keep the Conch Republic on the straight and narrow. No doubt,
The Boss always keeps it between the navigational beacons! |
The Rest of the
Sound Crew... |
Travis "Ice" Beer
(Sound/LightTech) |
Justin
"Key West" Keith
(Sound/LightTech) |
These pirates fill-in from time to time... |
Stan
"The Man" Bowen
(Maracas, Charisma) |
Stan “The Man” Bowen is a true Parrothead.
Not only |
has he
played with the Conch Republic, but Jimmy Buffett, as
well. Anyone who knows him can testify to the fact
that Stan is indeed “a trip all by himself”. You may
met many Parrot-heads during your travels, but none more
colorful and engaging than Stan. Like Stan always says,
"Have Maracas, will travel!" |
Captain Ale. The good Captain be one of
the most talented musicians (and ale drinkers)
this side of the Black Sea. The Captain
has been playing the bass guitar for nearly four
decades both for fun and to earn his pirate
booty, so he has enough talent, experience and charisma to keep
any party (or ship) rockin'! |
"Volcano Doc" Messina
(Keyboards,
Vocals) |
Volcano
Doc spent most of his life with his
nose to |
the grindstone -
until he finally blew his top. Now he's laid
back and enjoying some of the finer things in
life, like boat drinks, cerveza, and traveling
the world with the Conch Republic. This
master of the ivory is a real show stopper, and
the volcano can erupt and take over the show at
any time. Look out, he's gonna blow! |
"G-Man" Evans
(Bass Guitar, Vocals) |
Getting out of the surf and into the fire, G-Man |
has brought the beach with him! Playing and
singing for too many years to tell, he now tries
as often as possible to get back to the sand
(stage) with the Conch Republic!
Guaranteed - an exciting time to be had by
all when this wild man is on the stage... even better when the
board are out and the surf's up! |
"Cayman"
Layman
(Congas, Bongos, Drums) |
Cayman Layman really knows how to rock
out with |
his "conch" out. He pounds out the
island rhythms on his trusty congas and bongos.
And oddly enough, after an obviously
fun night of drinking in Myrtle Beach, he "woke
up" face down in the sand and that "magic" sand
seems to have boosted his percussion skills to
another level... just watch out for the extra sand. |
"Barnacle" Byron Turner
(Keyboards) |
Yarr,
Maties! Ye,
be in the presence of one of the |
roughest,
toughest pirates to ever tickle the ivory keys! He be none
other than the legendary "Barnacle Byron the Player". With one
bad eye and a bum leg, you might think he be washed up, but nay,
nay. Barnacle Byron be the most capable pirate to ever stroke
a keyboard or get Davey and walk the plank. |
